What is a Wireless G Router?
The Wireless G Router was released in 2003. It uses 802.11g technology and is almost five times faster then Wireless B. Wireless G routers are backwards compatible with Wireless B (802.11b), so can be used in conjunction with a Wireless B (802.11b) network.
Most of the major manufacturers of wireless routers will make the Wireless G Router.
Wireless G routers operate with a data transfer speed of up to 54 megabits per second. It runs on the 2.4GHz frequency band, which is also used by bluetooth, microwave ovens, cordless telephones and baby monitors. As such, it is possible to experience interference with these devices.
The Wireless G router has been replaces with Wireless N Routers. However, Wireless G is still very popular and widely available.
Range of Wireless G Routers
Generally, Wireless G Routers have a range of up to 500 feet if there are no obstacles in the way, such as a wall. This means that your computer (eg your laptop) can be up to 500 feet away from the wireless router. The range indoors is approximately 35 metres.
